Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA)

The Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program was created in 1962 to assist workers who lost their jobs because of increased competition from imports. The most recent changes to the program took place in 2002, under the Trade Act of 2002.

TAA provides training assistance, re-employment services and income support to these laid off workers.  TWA seeks an expansion of TAA supports to a wider range of industries than just the "goods producing" sectors, and to ease its access and integration with other workforce programs.  We also feel TAA's package of long-term training and income support is a model for other federal program reforms.
