Congress Passes Training-Friendly Farm Bill with Veto-Proof Majority. Congress passed the nearly $290 billion Farm Bill the week of May 12th by a veto proof majority in both chambers. Importantly for workforce development advocates, enactment of the Farm Bill means that key reforms to the Food Stamp Employment & Training (FSET) program will go into effect as of October 1st, 2008. Stakeholders from across the nation took a fresh approach to workforce at TWA's 2008 Advocacy Summit. On Feb. 12th and 13th, 150 stakeholders from 24 states came to Washington to meet with over 100 elected officials about a new vision for federal workforce policy that can make the U.S. more competitive.
